Winnefred Earl Briggs, 60, passed away on March 9, 2026. He will be interred at the Coleman City Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved mother and father.

Earl, as he was known, was born on July 27, 1965, in Abilene, Texas to Winnefred E. Briggs Sr. and Jewel Briggs. He attended the Little Flame and Big Flame Schools and graduated in 1985. During his school years, he participated in Special Olympics and looked forward to them every year. He was especially proud of the gold medal that he won in the softball throw competition.

As an only child, Earl grew up without siblings, but at the age of 23, he met Brenda and Deborah, two sisters whom he instantly began referring to as “my sisters”. They, in turn, instantly began calling him “favorite little brother”, and so a bond was formed that was never broken.

Throughout his life, Earl was always cheerful and kind and everyone who met him always grew to love him. Every Sunday, Earl was looking forward to Monday, where he had a job at the JCI Sheltered Workshop which he enjoyed. He lived at various group homes during his lifetime and had many wonderful caregivers that he loved. Those who were extra-special to him include Fernando, Amelia, Penny, and his nurse, Lacey. He leaves behind his sisters, Brenda and Deborah, a special friend, Lori, and his Sunday school teacher, Sherry Preas.

His family would like to thank Kinder Hearts Hospice and Lake Hills Nursing Home for their compassionate care in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests tributes to Special Olympics or a charity of their choice.
