Lady Lions cruise to 70-point victory at Bluebonnet Relays, Lions place sixth as a team

The reigning Class 4A track and field state champion Brownwood Lady Lions earned their second meet championship of 2026, capturing the Bluebonnet Relays by more than 70 points Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium.

Competing in front of a home crowd for the first time since 2024 – as the 2025 Bluebonnet Relays were canceled due to Gordon Wood Stadium renovations – the Lady Lions generated 187 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Wolfforth Frenship with 115.6 points.

The 2025 Class 4A state champion 4×100 relay team of Icess Hall, Kaya Phillips, Jade Morin, Aniah Hines (47.36), and 200 meters state champion Kaya Phillips (24.96) earned gold medals Friday. Rebekkah Delgado claimed two gold medals as well in the 800 meters (2:20.55) and the 400 meters (58.79), while other event winners included Hannah Deen in the high jump (5-6), Lyndi Biasiolli in the 3200 meters (12:53.32), Icess Hall in the triple jump (37-0), and the 4×200 relay of Hall, Morin, Hines, and Phillips (1:40.86)

Meanwhile, the Brownwood Lions came in sixth place with 32 points, as Harker Heights amassed 189 points to earn the varsity boys title.

Top finishers for the Lions were Blayne Stegemoller in the discus (138-7) and Caven Webster in the 100 meters (10.84), who both placed third.

The Zephyr Bulldogs finished in eighth place among varsity boys teams with 12 points as Aaron Fagan placed third in the 3200 meters (10:25.97) and fourth in the 1600 meters (4:47.04), while Spencer Marwitz was fifth in the 3200 meters (10:53.64).

In JV action, the Lady Lions finished second with 142 points, trailing only the 181 of Wolfforth Frenship. Meanwhile, the Lions came in fifth place with 42.33 points, as Odessa High was the top team with 201 points.

Brownwood is back in action Thursday at the Stephenville Optimist Relays.
