Lady Lions 4×200, 4×400 relays advance to finals of Texas Relays, 4×100 to compete Saturday

AUSTIN – The Brownwood Lady Lions 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams on Friday qualified for the Division I High School Girls finals of the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, which will be run Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

The 4×200 foursome of Icess Hall, Jade Morin, Aniah Hines and Kaya Phillips was clocked at a time of 1:39.89, third-best among the field in the preliminaries. The Lady Lions trailed only Dallas Lincoln (1:39.34) and Madisonville (1:39.65). Brownwood will run again at 12:10 p.m. Saturday in the nine-team finals.

Meanwhile, the 4×400 relay of Rebekkah Delgado, Grace Sparks, Phillips, and Morin ran a time of 3:59.43, which ranked sixth in Division I High School Girls and secured a spot in Saturday’s 4:15 p.m. finals. The Lady Lions trailed Texarkana Liberty Eylau (3:54.75), Waxahachie Life (3:54.82), Dallas Lincoln (3:55.67), Salado (3:58.68), and Houston St. John’s (3:59.36).

Also Friday, Hannah Deen (5-1.75) came in 18th place out of 27 high jump entrants among Division I High School Girls, while Sparks (13.59) placed 20th out of 32 competitors in the Division I High School Girls 100-meter hurdles.

Joining the 4x 200 and 4×400 relays in Saturday action for the Lady Lions will be the reigning Class 4A state champion 4×100 relay – also comprised of Hall, Morin, Hines and Phillips – competing in the prelims at 9 a.m., and Sparks in the pole vault at 9:30 a.m. If the 4×100 advances to the finals, they will return to the track at 1:35 p.m. Saturday.

All Lady Lions and Lions will be back in action Wednesday and Thursday at the District 6-4A meet in Graham.
