
ABILENE – Following a third straight district championship, the Brownwood Lady Lions captured a second consecutive area title and secured 18 berths in the Region I-4A meet May 1-2 in Lubbock, where they will seek another repeat performance.
The Lady Lions amassed 188 points at the District 5-4A/6-4A area meet at the Shotwell Stadium Annex Friday, easily outdistancing district rival and runner-up Brock (97) by 91 points.
Brownwood’s girls won nine of the 17 events and brought home 15 medals.
Finishing first in their respective events for the Lady Lions were Hannah Deen in both the long jump (17-8) and high jump (J5-5); Trinity Roberts in the discus (111-2); Nylah Hall in the triple jump (37-3); Rebekkah Delgado in the 800 meters (2:24.09); Grace Sparks in the 300-meter hurdles (46.86); Kaya Phillips in the 200 meters (23.97); the 4×100 relay of Eboni Baker, Kaya Phillips, Jade Morin, and Aniah Hines (47.49); the 4×200 relay of Nylah Hall, Jade Morin, Aniah Hines, and Kaya Phillips (1:41.43); and the 4×400 relay of Grace Sparks, Rebekkah Delgado, Hannah Deen, and Jade Morin (3:58.48).
Advancing as area runners-up were Hannah Deen in both the triple jump (36-5.75) and the 300-meter hurdles (47.52); Grace Sparks in both the pole vault (J11-6) and the 100-meter hurdles (14.8); Kaydence Allen in the shot put (35-7); and Kaya Phillips in the long jump (17-7.75).
The top four finishers in each event qualified for regionals, and moving on after placing fourth were Jentry Coalson in the 100-meter hurdles (15.57); and Rebekkah Delgado in the 400 meters (1:00.58).
Icess Hall did not compete in the triple jump despite qualifying due to a hamstring injury suffered at the district meet, but Hall hopes to rejoin the 4×100 and 4×200 relays at the Region I-4A meet in two weeks.
The Brownwood Lions, meanwhile, tallied 4 points as Blayne Stegemoller came in fifth place in the discus with a best effort of 144 feet, while the 4×400 relay of Hutton Malone, Wyatt Wolf, Raven Prado, and Blayne Stegemoller placed sixth in a time of 3:31.26.
