A graveside funeral service for Helen Day Slusher, will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 23, 2026, in the Stewardson Cemetery, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Helen Joan Day Slusher was born on October 21, 1932, in Santa Anna, to Aubrey and Erin Day. She married Robert Leland Slusher in Wichita Falls, and they shared many years together as partners in life.

She worked for the Ector County Independent School District for more than 35 years, serving in a variety of roles. She began as a substitute teacher and concluded her career as an Educational Diagnostician. She contributed to the education and development of many students.

Helen was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and she valued sharing the frontier history of the Samuel Stewardson family. Those who loved her will never forget coming through the back door with a “knock, knock,” or gathering around her kitchen table – the center of the time they spent together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Erin Day; husband, Robert “Bob” Slusher; son-in-law, Ronnie Duckworth; and granddaughter, Natalie Petit.

Helen is survived by her five children: Monte Slusher and wife Shelia; Susan Duckworth; Sharon Short; Mitch Slusher; Sandra Bradford and husband John, and her brother Clint Day.

She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and two nieces.

Helen passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at age 93, after a long, full, and productive life.
