The Brownwood Lions baseball team was eliminated from postseason contention in Tuesday’s home finale, falling to the District 6-4A rival Mineral Wells Rams by a 10-0 count.

The Lions managed just two hits, while the Rams scored in five of six innings and belted a pair of home runs – including a second-inning grand slam that boosted the advantage to 5-0.

Brownwood (6-21, 1-8) will close its first season under head coach Chris Bright at Mineral Wells (15-10-2, 4-5) at 7 p.m. Friday, as the Rams locked up the district’s fourth playoff berth with Tuesday’s win.

The Lions scored 11 runs in their lone district win at Graham on March 31, and have mustered a total of 13 runs in their eight district defeats, with four by shutout. At Morris Southall Field in 2026, Brownwood posted a 1-10 record.

Tallying hits for Brownwood Tuesday were Cannon Calvert with a two-out double in the second inning, and Harrison Sweaney with a lead single in the third.

The best chance for the Lions to score came in the bottom of the fifth as, with two outs, Calvert reached on an error, Sweaney walked and Calder Damron was hit by a pitch, but Brownwood was unable to scratch across a run.

Mineral Wells’ William Hollifield, Brogan Sims and Jaxon Cox combined to strike out eight Lions with one walk and three runners left stranded, as the Rams committed one error.

For the Lions, Logan Flores, Carter Massey and Shaxton Simpson yielded a combined 10 earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts, five walks and two hit batters. Brownwood’s defense committed a pair of errors behind them.

Kord Henry finished with three hits, including the grand slam, for Mineral Wells, while Sims added a solo shot, and Newt Schroeder recorded two hits and a pair of RBIs.
