Jerry Dell Haggerton was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and incredible friend. She peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in Keller, Texas surrounded by her family. Born on January 16, 1952, in Colorado City, Texas, where she grew up and graduated from Colorado City High School in 1970.

Throughout her life, Jerry Dell was raised to love family, and water skiing or anything that involved friends and cousins. Her marriage to James Everett Haggerton on August 14, 1971, in Colorado City was a marriage that lasted just shy of 55 years. If there is such a thing as “soul mates”, that’s what they were. Together, they built a successful life, welcoming children and grandchildren into their legacy.

Jerry Dell’s dedication extended beyond her family to her church community. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Stanton, where she and Jimmy built and raised their family. JimBob and Jennifer will tell you they were in church anytime the doors were open, and JerryDell’s community would attest to that fact, remembering her service on multiple committees – church librarian, prayer circles, funeral hospitality team, Girls in Action to list a few. After moving to the area in 2015, they became active members of First Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Texas, where she frequently participated in the Ladies Ministry. Her faith was always central in her life, and she passed on that love of Jesus and the Bible to her kids at an early age. Among her many joys were gardening and keeping up an amazing landscape around her home and she loved quiet moments spent on her back porch, watching the sunsets.

Jerry Dell is survived by her beloved husband, James Everett Haggerton; her children – son Jim Bob Haggerton (wife Cindy) and daughter Jennifer Kay Haggerton (fiancé Jonny Prupes). She also leaves behind seven adored grandchildren: Harper Joseph Haggerton, Ellington Grace Haggerton, Tate Destin Haggerton, Whitten MacRae Haggerton, Baker Jolene Haggerton, Crosby Rees Haggerton, and Sienna Rose Prupes, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. Her brother, Larry Strain (wife Pati) also carries forward her memory with love. And, not to mention, too many beloved extended family members to count!

Jerry Dell was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Waddell Strain and Geraldine Posey Strain; her brother, Eddie Strain; and her grandson, Evans Driscoll Haggerton.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Jerry Dell Haggerton’s life will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, located at 301 N Main St, in Cross Plains with Rev.
