Man admits breaking into Early car lot, stealing two trucks

Officers with the Early Police Department received information of the possible location of one of two trucks that was stolen during the early morning hours of Jan. 31 from a car lot in Early. Officers located and recovered the 2013 Dodge on Lewis St. in Brownwood. The pickup had some body damage and someone had begun painting the bumpers in an effort to disguise the vehicle.

Detective Brandon McMillian began following leads for several days. Paint supplies and other evidence was located Feb. 5 at a storage building on Belle Plain. A tip was received that the 1998 Dodge was being painted in that facility. McMillian and Brownwood Police Department Detective Brian Rice were following leads on the stolen truck possibly related to a Brownwood case when they located that 1998 Dodge at a residence on Hillsboro St. The truck had been painted but was identified by the VIN number. Officers arrested a suspect, Jamith Bert Fraser, who was arrested on outstanding warrant.

At the time of arrest, Fraser was in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine. During questioning, Fraser confessed to breaking into the car lot and taking the two trucks. Fraser was booked into the Brown County Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, as well as five outstanding warrant. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
