Assault in progress call leads to several drug charges

Deputies Jayson Bastardo and Saydie Hammond with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to N. US 183 January 22 regarding a physical assault in progress. Prior to arrival, the suspect fled the scene in an orange Ford Ranger. The vehicle and suspect were located later on CR 381. A female stated her boyfriend, identified as Justin Early, assaulted her during an argument. After further investigation, Early was arrested for assault family violence. While taking inventory of the vehicle, Hammond located 62 grams of marijuana and 24.31 grams of methamphetamines. Early was also charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than four grams and possession of marijuana.

Also on Tuesday, Corporal Taylor Fletcher performed a traffic stop on a Honda Sedan on FM 2273 near the Lake Brownwood turnoff. After a vehicle search, the driver, Joe Coleman, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, les than one gram. This was after multiple items were found containing trace amounts of methamphetamine residue. Coleman was also charged with possession of a dangerous drug for five Trazadone tablets, weighing a total of 4.2 grams.

In other incidents involving the sheriff’s office:
• Illegal dumping on CR 432 and FM 583.
• Lieutenant Pete Bastardo met with a male regarding theft. According to the man, he wrote a $7,000 check as a down payment for work that has yet to begin.
• A recovered stolen vehicle report was taken on N. Hwy 279. The incident is still being investigated.
