Coleman County Commissioners voted Monday morning, March 25, to approve an Interlocal Agreement to be able to house inmates from other counties.
According to Coleman County Judge, Billy Bledsoe, the county could begin housing inmates from other counties as soon as April 1st.
Coleman County built a new 48 bed county jail facility and opened it in February 2019. Cells not used for Coleman County prisoners will be rented out to other counties who may need the space at a rate of $45 per inmate per day.
Of the 48 beds, Coleman County was using 23 of them as of Monday morning.
