The Brownwood City Council on Tuesday passed an Ordinance on First Reading to lower the speed limit on Milam Drive to 30 mph on a lengthy stretch from Albert Sidney Johnson Drive (FM 2376) to Indian Creek Drive.
This originally came about when a City Council member received requests to lower the speed limit from 45 mph to 30 mph due to the amount of pedestrians crossing in the that area.
Many are students involved in athletic events walking from the stadium grounds to the ball fields and Aquatic Center.
Violation of the speed limit may result in a fine not to exceed $500.
The Council will hear the Ordinance again on second, third and final readings at their next meeting before the measure is finally approved.
