The pre-registration deadline for Howard Payne University’s Summer and Young Scholars annual academic summer camp is June 27.

The program is scheduled for July 14-18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on HPU’s campus.

The registration fee for the program is $165 and includes tuition, a t-shirt, promotional items, daily snacks and supplies. T-shirts are only guaranteed to those who pre-register by June 27. The deadline for late registration is July 5.

“Each class will cap at 20 students, so be sure you register before the deadline to ensure a spot for your child,” said Dr. Julie Welker, chair of the Department of Communication and director of the Summer and Young Scholars programs. “Classes do fill up, so I recommend registering by the early-bird deadline of June 27 to get a spot and a t-shirt.”

The Summer and Young Scholars week-long day camp programs are designed to provide intense, fun and academically stimulating camp programming for children entering grades K-6.

All the instructors for the program are experienced educators.

“We are so delighted to have such an accomplished group of teachers for our summer program. said Welker. “Each of these instructors is an expert in their field, and the students will be challenged and have fun in each class.”

The instructors participating in the program include:

• Summer Scholars, Grades 4-6: Dr. Kristen Hutchins, dean of the School of Science and Mathematics and professor of biology; Dr. Greg Hatlestad, associate professor of biology; and Mrs. Tami Hull, Brownwood ISD high school science teacher.
• Young Scholars, Grades 1-3: Dr. Chelsea Miranda assistant professor of biology; Mrs. Sarah Langford, assistant professor of mathematics; and Mrs. Tasha Carter, retired Early High School art teacher and HPU alumna.
• Kindergarten: Mrs. Heather Barnes, Alvin ISD, certified in EC-4, SPED, ESL and TSVI and HPU alumna.
