On September 6, 2025 the Brown County Museum of History will host ‘Victory at Last’, an event celebrating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the role Camp Bowie played in the Allied victory. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers trained in Brown County, were deployed all around the world, and credited with helping win that global conflict.
Brigadier General (ret.) Dan Locker and Cynthia Locker will serve as honorary chairs of the patriotic evening. “We are so pleased to serve as chairs for this Museum event. So much that affected World War II happened right here, and the Museum not only preserves artifacts but keeps those memories alive for another generation,” said the Lockers.
The patriotic evening is set at the Brownwood Event Center. Proceeds will benefit the Museum’s Educational Programs for Children. The event features dinner, drinks, raffles, an auction, entertainment, live music from the Howard Payne University Jazz Band, and even a special guest appearance by the Dallas Brass. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
Gala co-chair Jane Rodgers explains, “Plans are for this to be a joyful and fun celebration, even as it is a time of remembrance for those who served. In 1940 the world faced a ferocious foe in Hitler and the Axis powers. The men and women of America stepped up, going from a peacetime to a fighting force—truly they are the Greatest Generation.”
“The Museum of History’s mission is to serve the community—most of our programs are for children and families,” states Museum Director Kyndall Howard.” We offer a broad range of educational experiences, including in geology, art, music, literature, and forensics, as well as history,” Howard adds. “We are committed to keeping prices family-friendly, so fundraising events like this are vital to for us to continue bringing quality programs for kids. And next year’s gala is set for September 2026.”
