
Following their 64-46 victory over the Whiteface Antelopes Saturday night at the Jayton Gridiron Classic, the May Tigers have vaulted to No. 2 in Class A Division I in the most recent Dave Campbell’s Texas football rankings, released Monday.
The Tigers, who started the season ranked No. 4 in the state, trail only reigning state champion Gordon (1-0), which defeated Class A Division II No. 4 Richland Springs (0-1) by a 52-6 count opening night.
May will visit Richland Springs at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the second game of the season for both squads.
In defeating Whiteface (0-1) Saturday night, the Tigers knocked off the 2024 state runner-up to Gordon.
Other teams close to the BrownwoodNews.com coverage area ranked in the DCTF Top 10 this week are Albany (1-0), at No. 4 in Class 2A Division II; and De Leon (1-0), at No. 10 in Class 2A Division I.
Also, the Brownwood Lions (0-1) will face the Class 3A Division II No. 3 Wall Hawks (1-0) in their home opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while Comanche (0-1) travels to Class 3A Division I No. 7 Llano (1-0) in Week 2.
