During Friday’s Gordon Wood Hall of Champions induction ceremony, it was announced that Dallas Huston “Voice of the Lions” for 58 years, will be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 9, 2026 as the Dave Campbell Contributor to the Game.
The rest of the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 will be revealed at a later date. The induction ceremony will be held at the Hurd Welcome Center on the campus of Baylor University in Waco, and the Class of 2026 will be introduced to the crowd at the UIL state championship football games on Saturday, Dec. 20.
Huston said, “It’s a great honor and I’m still in shock. It’s beyond what I could imagine and it still feels to me like they’re talking about somebody else. I got a phone call from a good friend of mine, Jay Allison, and he and his wife didn’t beat around the bush too much. I owe a lot to Jay, including probably this award. It’s a great honor and I’m very thankful. I still can’t get a hold of this one. I’ve got until May, and it’ll probably take me until then to appreciate it fully.”
Huston retired in 2021, and is a member of the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions, the Howard Payne University Athletic Hall of Fame, the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame and in 1999 was named Best High School Sportscaster in the state by Texas Monthly, among numerous other honors.
Brownwood ISD Athletic Director Mitch Moore also announced during Friday’s ceremony that for the Lions’ first home game with the new press box for the 2026 football season, Dallas Huston will call at least the first play of the game, if not a little more, for KOXE FM 101.3 radio.
