Brown County Emergency Alert System outage caused by targeted cyber attack

The Brown County Office of Emergency Management on Monday shared the following details regarding the Brown County Emergency Alert System outage on November 20.

Brown County officials notified residents that CodeRed, the emergency alert system used for automated weather alerts and other emergency messages, was out of service.

An update from the vendor included the following details:

• The CodeRED environment was the victim of a targeted cyber attack by an organized cybercriminal group.

• Residents who have reused their CodeRED password for any other personal or business accounts should change those passwords immediately.

Brown County officials continue to work to restore the emergency alert system.
