Lions upend Grape Creek, 53-44, in Brady tournament opener

BRADY – The Brownwood Lions returned to the win column in the first game at the Brady tournament Thursday, knocking off Grape Creek, 53-44.

The Lions (6-5) led 20-9 after one quarter, 30-27 at halftime, and 42-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

Cannon Calvert poured in 16 points, with 12 coming in the first quarter alone, followed by Durham Brown with 14, Elias Perez with 13, Jordan Gilbert with three, Hayden Brumbelow, Carson Noe, and Riggs Gray with two each, and Bennett Windham with one point.

Brownwood is back in action Friday against Eldorado and the Abilene High JV, then closes tournament action Saturday against the San Angelo Central JV.
