Following a near one-hour executive session Monday night, the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to add one year to the contract of Superintendent Dr. Joe Young after a review of his performance.

The extra year will extend Young’s contract through 2031, as in January of 2025 the BISD Board of Trustees voted on a five-year extension that was set to expire in 2030.

Also Monday, the BISD Board unanimously approved the 2024-25 financial audit, which was conducted by Pattillo, Brown and Hill Accounting Firm for the fifth year in a row. The school district received a clean opinion from Pattillo, Brown and Hill as no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses were found.

Dr. Young announced during the Superintendent’s Report that Brownwood High tennis head coach Dalton Hutchins had applied for and received confirmation of a $24,500 grant from the United States Tennis Association, with those funds going toward resurfacing the middle school tennis courts.

During the instructional focus portion of the meeting, the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees was recognized as January is National School Board Month. Trustees include Michael Cloy, Broderick Jones Sr., Diane Thompson, Codie Smith, Justin Posey, Tim Wilson and Connor Arrington.

Passed on the consent agenda were approval of fundraisers for a middle school band trip in the spring, final approval of library materials for January purchase, and the minutes from the Dec. 8 meeting.
