The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets halted a four-game slide and scored their second-most points in basketball game this season during a 116-76 victory over the College of Biblical Studies out of Houston Wednesday night at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Howard Payne’s highest point total of the season came in a 119-117 victory at Concordia back on Dec. 16.

The Yellow Jackets (12-8, 0-1) had last landed in the win column Dec. 30 at Nebraska Wesleyan and in the four games since HPU scored less than 100 points in three of those, and less than 80 in the last two, including a 94-64 setback at Centenary Jan. 20 – a team Howard Payne defeated 103-82 in Brownwood on Dec. 12.

Against CBS, Howard Payne converted 58 percent (40 of 69) of its field goal attempts, including 54 percent (13 of 24) of its three-pointers. The Jackets also drained 79 percent (23 of 29) of their free throws and owned a 37-26 edge in rebounds.

CBS (3-21), which fell into a 51-33 hole by halftime, sank 47 percent (28 of 60) of its shots, 32 percent (6 of 19) of its treys, and 82 percent (14 of 17) of its free throws.

Armonie Ramey again sparked the offense for HPU with 21 points trailed by 14 from Carter Eddy, 11 each from Avant Coleman and Jordan McClendon, nine apiece from Carter May and Nathan Scott, seven from Jamie Puentes, six each from Ben Phillip, Braylon Crosby, Jayden Bush and Caden Sandlin, five from Jackson Tomlin, three from Connor Yocom, and two points from Will Jefferson.

CBS was led by Darion Ramos with 23 points while Trayvon Martinez added 21.

The Yellow Jackets, as well as the Lady Jackets (9-10, 0-0), will be back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday as they host Mary Hardin-Baylor in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at the Brownwood Coliseum.
