The Brown County Sheriff’s Office issued the following press release Wednesday morning:
Sheriff Vance Hill reported that on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at approximately 6:17 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 7100 block of Belfast Drive at Lake Brownwood in reference to a domestic disturbance with a male subject being shot. Deputies arrived and located Erin Martin nearby.
Deputies detained Martin while other deputies continued to the scene. Deputies found Michael Land with a gunshot wound to his chest area. Deputies were able to speak with Land before he was transported to Hendrick Medical Center. Land told deputies that Martin became upset during an argument and pulled a gun. Land said he tried to back away from the situation and was shot in the chest by Martin. Deputies spoke with Martin, who claimed she was being assaulted by Land, so she shot Land in self-defense.
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) responded and processed the scene. Evidence was collected at the scene that contradicted what Martin told deputies. Martin was arrested and taken to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
Martin was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Family Violence. Land was treated and released from Hendrick Medical Center.
This investigation is ongoing.
