LITTLE RIVER – The Brownwood Lions extended their unbeaten streak to six matches with their second consecutive District 5-4A soccer victory, 4-0 at Little River Academy Tuesday night.

The Lions (5-1-2, 2-0) led Academy (2-10-4, 0-3) by a 1-0 count at halftime on a goal by Isaac Morales, with an assist from Aiden Jimenez. In the second half, Jimenez scored with an assist from Alex Vaquera, who also found the net unassisted. Jonathan Skrhak also tacked on a goal for Brownwood, with the assist to Morales.

Little River imposed a challenge by sinking into a defensive shape, making it difficult to break down,” said Lions head coach Michael Westerman. “We moved the ball exceptionally well in our defensive and middle third but was only able to find the net once in the first half from Isaac Morales. We made some adjustments and took a difference approach in the attacking third to pull their defensive shape out and then exploit the space in behind. This opened up more opportunities that led to three more goals. I’m proud of our boys and their ability to adapt and find success, and incredibly impressed with our defensive leadership and forcing a shutout.”

The Lions will next host Gatesville (5-6, 0-2) – which is coming off a 6-0 loss to Lampasas – at 7 p.m. Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium.
