The City of Brownwood and the Martin & Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum announce the return of the annual Wheels That Move the World event on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This signature community event offers an immersive, hands-on look at the massive machinery and specialized vehicles that drive our infrastructure, agriculture, and public safety.
This year, the event expands its educational mission with the debut of the “Roundhouse Table Talks.” Located inside the museum gallery, these curated sessions feature equipment experts and operators from our various community partners. These specialists will lead 10-20 minute demonstrations and interactive discussions designed specifically for children and families, bringing the machinery to life through storytelling and technical expertise.
“We are so excited to kick off spring break with a high-energy day that gets families out of the house and into the driver’s seat, literally!” said Mary Ann Cradduck, Museum and Visitor Center Coordinator of the Lehnis Railroad Museum. “It’s the perfect springtime outing where families can explore machinery up close, race cars in our STEM zone, and enjoy a free train ride. We’re making transportation and history fun for the next generation of explorers.”
Event Highlights include:
The Fleet on the Street: A diverse lineup of heavy-duty vehicles including vintage locomotives, massive construction equipment, and emergency rigs will be available for public exploration along Congress and Lee Street.
TNW & TXR Sponsored Mini Train Rides: Thanks to a generous sponsorship from TNW Corporation and TXR Railway, the museum’s popular mini train rides will be free of charge for all attendees.
The STEM Zone: Featuring the “Gravity Grand Prix,” where participants can race modified cars to learn the physics of motion and friction through hands-on experimentation.
Immersive “Engine Room”: A synchronized light and sound experience inside the museum that transports visitors into the heart of a 19th-century steam engine.
Artisan Market & Local Food: A curated selection of local vendors and regional food trucks will be on-site throughout the event.
The Martin & Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum is a department of the City of Brownwood dedicated to preserving the rich railroad history of Central Texas. Through interactive exhibits, historical rolling stock, and educational programming, the museum serves as a hub for transportation enthusiasts and families across the American Southwest.
Wheels That Move the World is free to the public. For more information, visit the Lehnis Railroad Museum & Visitor Center at 700 E. Adams St. or contact museum staff at 325-643-6376.
