Needing a penalty kick shootout to get past Little River Academy in the first meeting, the No. 17 Brownwood Lady Lions dominated from start to finish in Friday’s rematch at Gordon Wood Stadium, tallying a 6-1 victory for a District 5-4A soccer sweep.

Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Lady Lions (14-2-1, 6-0), who secured their eighth victory in a row, tacked on four second-half goals against Little River Academy (14-7, 3-4) to leave no doubt about the final outcome.

We watched a lot of film and there were a lot of missed opportunities we had in the first game, so we worked on what we could do to be better as far as taking care of the opportunities we had,” said Lady Lions head coach Alexis Walker. “In the first half it took us a little bit to get going, but in the second half they did a very good job of that.”

Nylah Hall, 5-4A’s leading goal scorer a year ago, recorded a hat trick of three for the second contest in a row, while Kynlee Jefferson, Ailean Palacios and Amerie De La Paz also found the net.

Hall scored both first-half goals on an assist from Madison Weckwerth with 19:02 left before halftime, and again with 7:36 remaining before the break with the assist from Palacios.

We have to start off fast and we didn’t do that today, and that’s something we have to do in this district,” Walker said. “There’s things every single game you can take and learn from, but overall the girls did tremendous tonight.”

Just three minutes into the second half, Hall completed the hat trick with an assist from Alayna Hernandez.

Having the basketball girls is huge for us, especially Nylah who was our leading goal scorer last year in district,” Walker said. “She just creates more opportunities and we’re thankful for that.”

With 34:51 left in the contest, Jefferson scored with an assist from Kynlie Lewis; then Palacos found the net with 22:26 remaining following the deflection of Lewis’ shot on goal.

Little River Academy broke up the shutout with 18:23 to go, but De La Paz answered that goal with an assist from Palacios with 14:24 on the clock.

The Lady Lions will next travel to Gatesville (3-11-2, 0-6) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
