ABILENE – The reigning Class 4A track and field state champion Brownwood Lady Lions earned their first meet title of 2026, defending their crown at the McMurry War Hawk Relays Saturday.

The Lady Lions generated 161 points to easily outdistance runner-up Wall (139), while in JV action the Lady Lions finished with 206 points to coast past second-place Abilene High (172.5).

Highlights for the Lady Lions included sweeping all three relays, while Grace Sparks won both the 300-meter hurdles and pole vault, and Rebekkah Delgado, in the 800 meters, and defending state champion Kaya Phillips, in the 200 meters, also came in first. Nylah Hall also set a new school record in the triple jump with her second-place effort.

In boys action Saturday, the Lions garnered a fourth-place team finish with 65 points, leaving them behind only Wall (184) Abilene High (144), and Jim Ned (113). The JV Lions also came in fourth with 69 points behind Abilene High (277), Jim Ned (100), and Wall (85).

Top performances for the Lions came from Blayne Stegemoller in the discus, Wyatt Wolf in the pole vault, and the 4×100 relay team, all of which were runners-up in their respective events.

The Lady Lions and Lions will next compete in Burleson on Thursday.
