Homer Taylor Carriger, age 89, of Brady, passed away peacefully Friday, March 6, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at his residence in Brady. Homer was born May 2, 1936, in Brady, to Joe Henry Carriger and Evelyn (Wallace) Carriger. Homer lived a life marked by hard work, faith, and deep devotion to his family and friends.
After graduating from Menard High School, Homer proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he spent two years as a field artillery team member. His service was a source of pride and helped shape the strong character and discipline he carried throughout his life.
Following his military service, Homer worked for the Texas State Highway Department, where he spent many years dedicated to his work and community. Later, he continued serving his community as a school bus driver, a role he enjoyed and took pride in.
Homer had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He especially loved fishing along the San Saba River, where many peaceful hours were spent enjoying nature. He also enjoyed traveling to Colorado for deer hunting and took part in rattlesnake hunting each spring. These activities were more than hobbies to Homer—they were times of fellowship, stories, and memories shared with family and friends.
Homer was known for bringing people together. He loved hosting fish fries for family and friends, gatherings that were always filled with good food, laughter, and conversation. He also enjoyed playing the classic domino game 42, often around the table with friends and family. Above all, Homer was a devoted Christian. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, and he was a faithful member of the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ. He lived his beliefs through kindness, humility, and a willingness to help others.
A memorial service for Homer Carriger will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in Brady with Max Gordon officiating. Friends may view Homer’s Memorial Video Tribute and/or sign his online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.
Homer is survived by his loving wife, Dannelle Carriger; his sons, Chris Carriger of Spokane and Cade Carriger and wife Holly of Abilene; and his cherished grandchildren, Braydon, Jamison, Skylah, Devlin, and Brynlee, who brought great joy and pride to his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Henry Carriger Jr. and Gary Carriger and wife Janice, and his sister, Dorothy Murr. Homer was preceded in death by his father, Joe Henry Carriger; his mother, Mary Evelyn Carriger; his brother, Harvey Carriger; and his sisters, Geneva Davis and Juanita Sides.
Homer will be remembered for his steady character, strong faith, love of the outdoors, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
