The Brownwood Lady Lions evened their District 6-4A softball record Friday night, breaking a 1-all tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of a 4-1 triumph over the Mineral Wells Lady Rams.

We changed the lineup, we changed the defense, we knew we made a lot of errors the last game and we wanted to make sure we didn’t do that again,” said Lady Lions head coach Cherita Munguia. “The girls decided they wanted to band together and be warriors and that’s what they did tonight. When you do everything I ask you to do and you go out there and put your team on your back and you fight, there’s not much you have to say to them.”

Coming off a 13-8 loss at Glen Rose Tuesday that featured six errors, the Lady Lions (13-9, 1-1) were sparked by a four-hitter from pitcher Kaydence Allen, who struck out seven, walked two and allowed an unearned run.

The Lady Lions were able to overcome the only two errors committed in the contest as Brownwood tallied six hits – two by Maitlyn Esquivel and one apiece by Hanah Campos, Adyn Lucas, Audrey Keas and Allen.

Knotted at 1 in the bottom of the sixth, Allen reached on a one-out single, then Lucas bunted her way aboard and advanced courtesy runner Kiara Delce into scoring position. Esquivel followed with an RBI single up the middle that plated Delce with the go-ahead run.

In front 2-1, Amarrea Thomas followed with an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Lucas, then Keas singled up the middle to bring home Esquivel.

Brownwood grabbed a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first inning as Campos led off with a triple and scored on an RBI ground out by Lila Mares.

Mineral Wells (16-6, 0-2) evened the score at 1 in the top of the third as a two-out error prolonged the inning, which was followed by a single to the outfield and other Brownwood fielding miscue.

The Lady Lions are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday as they welcome Stephenville (12-10-1, 1-1) in the Battle of 377 on the diamond.
