
Carl Leon Welch Sr. passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026 in Brownwood, TX at the age of 89 years.
He was born September 22, 1936 the first born to Alvin Carl Welch and Bertha Starkey Welch. On June 2, 1957 he married Jane Bartlett in Comanche, Texas.
Carl and his wife Jane owned and operated a farm in Comanche County for over 50 years. In the beginning it was a very large hog operation. Later they switched to watermelons and cantaloupes and a wide variety of other produce. In his later years he added sheep and goats. He could be found weekly during harvest season at many local farmers’ markets.
Carl was a Veteran of the US Army. He was a long time member of the Sipe Springs Masonic Lodge and the Armstrong Masonic Lodge in Deleon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Jane; brothers, Eddie Mac Welch, Larry Welch, F.L. Welch, and sister, Sue Matthews; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Donald & Louann Bartlett, Mary & John Mark Spruill, and Willie Joe Holland; nephews, Blake Bartlett, Cliff Bartlett and Mac Welch.
He is survived by his children: Leon Welch Jr. of Odessa, Alvin Welch & wife Sherri of Comanche, Rodney Welch & wife Rhonda of Granbury, and daughter Trease Burke & husband Scotty of Brownwood; grandchildren: Tyler Welch & wife Kelci, Cody Welch, Carl John Welch, Kaitlynn Welch, Cameron Burke & wife Kelsi, and Savannah Welch; great-grandchildren: Lincoln Welch, Liam Welch & Meredith Burke; sisters, Fonda Thompson & husband Roy, Barbara Holland and brother Connie Welch & wife Janie; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by dear friends Vic & Leslie Barber & their sons, Reed & Robbie, and many more family and friends.

The family will host a visitation on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home in Comanche, Texas. A Masonic Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche, TX with Tyler Welch officiating and Kevin Caraway performing the Masonic Rites.
