
Roy Dan Hoover, a devoted father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene, Texas. Born on March 7, 1947, in Bethany, Oklahoma, Roy Dan’s life was marked by dedication, service, and deep love for his family and community.
Raised in Oklahoma and Shamrock, Roy Dan graduated from Shamrock High School in 1967. He continued his education at Southern Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma, earning his degree in 1970. His early commitment to education laid the foundation for a life of both service and diligence.
In November of 1971, Roy Dan enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country with distinction. His military career spanned assignments in Germany, Iraq, Desert Storm, Southwest Asia, Fort Sill, and Fort Hood. After years of honorable service, he retired from the Army on November 30, 1991. His dedication to duty reflected his steadfast character and commitment to his fellow soldiers and nation.
Following his military retirement, Roy Dan continued to work in his community with positions at Home Video Outlet, Skinny’s, Shoppin’ Baskit, and Owl Drug Store. His work in these establishments showcased his strong work ethic and personable nature, earning him the respect and affection of colleagues and customers alike.
Roy Dan married Rebecca “Becky” Hubbard on December 22, 2001, in Coleman, a union that he cherished deeply. Though Becky preceded him in death, their bond remains a significant part of his life’s story.
Outside of his professional and military contributions, Roy Dan found joy in fishing, cheering on Bluecat football, watching wrestling, and enjoying game shows on television. These interests brought him relaxation and happiness throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved children, Brandon Hoover and wife Jami of Abilene, and Faith Hoover and fiancé Alex Kugle of Austin. Roy Dan also adored his grandchildren, Mia Hoover and Kyra Hill of Abilene, who brought great joy to his later years. He is further survived by his sister, Beatrice Phillips and husband Mark of Coleman, and his brother-in-law, Charles Hubbard and wife Jeannie of Bangs, along with numerous nieces and nephews who remember him fondly.
Roy Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Ruby Horn Hoover; his devoted wife, Rebecca “Becky” Hoover; and his sister, Jeanne French, and her husband, Randy French.
Roy Dan Hoover’s life was one of commitment, service, and love. His contributions to his family, his country, and his community will be remembered with respect and gratitude. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity and warmth that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
The family will host a visitation at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Charles Hubbard officiating. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.
