MINERAL WELLS – The Brownwood Lions scored the first two runs in their season finale, but were unable to hold on to the lead as the playoff-bound Mineral Wells rallied for a 10-3 victory.

Brownwood (6-22, 1-9) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Shaxton Simpson led off with a single, Wyatt Wolf followed with a double, and Robbie Robinson picked up the first RBI on a ground out.

The Lions stretched the lead to 2-0 in the second as Cannon Calvert led off with a walk, moved to second base on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on an errant pickoff attempt at third base.

Mineral Wells (16-11-2, 5-5) scored single runs in the bottom of second and third innings to even the score, then pulled ahead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Braxton May and an RBI double by Josh Petrie.

The Rams tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to open a 10-2 cushion, while the Lions added a final run in the top of the seventh.

Carter Massey and Simpson both walked to start the final inning for Brownwood, while Hutton Malone delivered an RBI single to plate Massey with the final run of the season.

The Lions recorded five hits – one each by Malone, Simpson, Wolf, Daylyn Ansons, and Calder Damron.

On the mound, Simpson, Logan Flores and Blayne Stegemoller combined to allow four earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and six walks. Brownwood’s defense committed four errors.
