A woman who was found face down in the water at Lake Brownwood’s Sandy Beach Sunday night passed away early Monday morning at Hendrick Medical Center-Brownwood.

According to Marcus Lively, Chief of the Lake Patrol, a 60-year-old female was sitting in about two feet of water in a lawn chair at Sandy Beach Sunday evening. Witnesses said her boyfriend went to check on their dog at the camper, and that she was floating face down in the water by the time he returned.

Lively, who stayed at the hospital until 1:30 a.m. Monday, confirmed the woman was still clinging to life when she arrived at Hendrick Medical Center-Brownwood.

The woman, whose identify has not yet been released by law enforcement, is from out of town, Lively confirmed.

The death will be classified as a drowning as that was the eventual cause of her passing, Lively added.
