The Lady Lions (8-11, 1-3) mustered just three points in the first quarter and one in the second and trailed Stephenville (17-1, 4-0) by a 19-4 count at halftime.
Offensive woes have plagued the Brownwood Lady Lions throughout the season, and that was again the case in Tuesday night’s 47-20 loss to the No. 5 Stephenville Honeybees in District 6-4A action at Warren Gym.
Brownwood went 15:31 between its first and second field goals, as a bucket by Brooke Price trimmed Stephenville’s lead to 25-6 at the 4:35 mark of the third quarter.
Brownwood trailed 33-11 at the end of the third period as Tessa Goodwin – who finished with a team-high nine points, all in the second half – sank two free throws with seven seconds left in the quarter to boost the Lady Lions into double figures.
The Lady Lions crept within 17 points, 37-20, with 3:10 left to go on a bucket by Jaylen Savage, but Stephenville reeled off the final 10 points of the contest.
Following Goodwin’s nine points, Savage added six, Price contributed four, Lindsey Larose chipped in two and Alexa Arreola sank a free throw.
