May Lady Tiger Reese Chambers advanced to the UIL Class A Track and Field State Championships as the wild card in the girls 100 meters, but left the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers with a silver medal Saturday night.

Chambers finished second in the 100 meters in a time of 12.43, cutting almost a half-second from her Region II-A regional run of 12.88. Chambers’ regional time ranked best among the third-place finishers in all four regions, which punched her ticket to Austin.

Blanket’s Tyler Simpson finished seventh in the boys 400 meters in a time of 52.29, improving on his Region III-A championship effort of 53.0. Christian Rattler of Knippa (48.99) won the state title trailed by silver medalist Blake Beard of Turkey Valley (50.01) and bronze medalist Trace Goodman of Springlake Earth (50.22).

Brookesmith’s Avery Williford finished ninth in the boys triple jump early Saturday as he tweaked a leg and did not record a distance. Christian Coker of Henrietta Midway captured the state crown (44-1.75), Hunter Warminski of White Deer was the silver medalist (44-0.25) and Dustin Bryant of Wildorado (43.7) earned the bronze.

Williford also came in ninth in the 200 meters in a time of 23.56. De’shon Goodley of Rankin earned the state title (22.0) followed by Darius Flowers of Paducah (22.15) with the silver and Kaige Covington of Roby (22.21) with the bronze.

Brookesmith’s 4×100 relay of Clayton Adame, Johnathan Willoughby, Randall Williams, and Williford also came in ninth in a time of 47.92. Paducah captured the state crown (42.99) with Cross Plains’ Sam Horan, Cason Allen, Ryan Hopkins and Cody McWilliams (44.04) bringing home silver medals and Richland Springs’ Jadeyn Bryant, Nick Nilson, Zane Capps and Landon Burkhart (44.08) collecting the bronze.

Brookesmith’s 4×200 relay of Adame, Willoughby, Williams, and Williford was disqualified for a false start as Paducah (1:29.41) earned the state championship trailed by silver medalist Rankin (1:29.95) and Cross Plains’ Horan, Allen, Hopkins and McWilliams (1:32.35) nabbed the bronze medal.

In other action involving local schools outside Brown County, the Cross Plains Lady Buffaloes 4×100 relay team of Addison Long, Torri Taylor, Abbigale Shepard and Katie Goains won the state championship in a time of 50.86.

The Lady Buffaloes quartet of Taylor, Long, Shepard and Goains later brought home a silver medal in the 4×200 relay (1.49.6) and finished fifth in the 4×400 relay (4:21.26).

To go along with silver and bronze medals in the 4x1and 4×2, the Buffaloes turned in a fifth-place effort in the 4×400 relay (3:39.38).

For Richland Springs, Jadeyn Bryant secured a silver medal in the boys 300-meter hurdles as he was clocked at 40.02.

Capps won a bronze medal for Richland Springs in the boys 100 meter dash in a time of 10.81, and also came in fourth in the long jump with a best effort of 20.5.

Ryleigh Bryant finished sixth in the girls 200 meter dash in a time of 26.96 for Richland Springs, while the girls 4×200 relay of Brynlii Chandler, Bryant, Lili Appleton and Raegan Wright placed ninth with a time of 1:59.69.

The Cross Plains boys finished fourth with 32 points followed by Richland Springs in fifth place with 30.

Cross Plains’ girls also came in fourth as team, netting 40 points.
