Brownwood Fire Department extinguishes fire on San Benito

The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Monday morning:

At 10:56 p.m. Friday, March 17, the Brownwood Fire Department responded to a call of a structure fire at 1101 San Benito.

Chief 9, Truck 9, Rescue 9, and Engine 92 were on scene along with the Early Volunteer Fire Department, Lifeguard Ambulance, Red Cross, and Brownwood Police Department.

Upon arrival the fire was contained to the kitchen area. The fire was extinguished using one preconnect hose line. Search of the smoke filled building was conducted finding no victims. Salvage and overhaul was performed to make sure there was no fire extension. The Red Cross was contacted to provide aid to the fire victims. Fire was accidental in nature and started on the kitchen stove. All on scene fire personnel returned to service.

The fire started in the kitchen and the cause was listed as improper cooking with $15,000 in damages.

Firefighters had the fire under control in 12 minutes and were on scene 67 minutes.
