Charles Ellis Walters Sr., age 86 of Early, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.

Visitation with family will be held from 6 to 8PM on Tuesday, April 4 at Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Funeral services for Charles will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, April 5 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Oplin Cemetery.

Charles Ellis Walters Sr. was born on April 14, 1936 to Ellis and Vernie Walters in Oplin, Texas. After graduating from High School, Charles enlisted in the United States Army where he served just shy of 25 years. He became a CW3 Army officer, and during his time served he was awarded Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Metal, Good Conduct Metal, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal, Vietnam Service Medal and 2 Bronze Service Stars. He married Judy Walters on August 1, 1991 in Colman. They shared 31 years of marriage until her passing in 2022. Charles enjoyed playing pool, cards, and dominos with his family. For many years, he loved coaching his kids and grandkids in sports. He also loved watching the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Charles is survived by his children; Sheila Woodcock and husband Ricky, Charles Walters Jr. and wife Gwen, Ronnie Walters and wife Bonnie, and Robin King and husband James. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Walters; daughters, Sharon Stewart and Pamela Woodcock; siblings, Lucille Cumba, Bonnie Roberts, Donnie Walters, Wanda Netherton, James Walters, and Goldene Walters; and son in laws; John Stewart and Tim Woodcock.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to Kelly Stevens, Miranda Carter, Keisha, and Misty Elliott, all staff at Solaris Hospice.
