With the UIL’s biennial realignment slated for Feb. 1, yet another prediction has reached the general public since the revelation of classification numbers back in December.
Last week, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football took a stab and how it feels Class 4A Division I will turn out, where the Brownwood Lions will again reside in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, and Region I is certainly interesting.
For the Lions, DCTF expects the leftovers from the current District 2 – Brownwood, Andrews, Big Spring and San Angelo Lake View to remain as District 2. But where this projection differs from Texas HS Sports’ late December Twitter projection of Stephenville occupying the final spot, DCTF expects Pecos to move into the district as the fifth seed.
If the DCTF prediction comes to pass, Brownwood’s football district foes would be 95 miles (San Angelo), 174 miles (Big Spring), 247 miles (Andrews), and 294 miles (Pecos) away.
In order for this district to become a reality, DCTF has placed all the El Paso area schools in District 1 – Austin, Bowie, Irvin, Ysleta, Riverside, and San Elizario, along with opt up programs Clint, Clint Mountain View and Fabens.
The aforementioned nine-team district would help with travel with only two non-district games on the schedule for each team. However, the Texas HS Sports Twitter projection expects there to be two districts in the El Paso – one of Austin, Bowie, Irvin, Ysleta, and Riverside, and the other with San Elizario, Clint, Clint Mountain View, Fabens and Pecos.
District 3 is expected to be the Panhandle area schools of Dumas, Hereford, Canyon, Canyon Randall, Canyon West Plains and Pampa in both set of projections.
While Brownwood’s district in the Texas HS Sports Twitter projection is District 4, DCTF expects District 4 to consist of Fort Worth schools Eastern Hills, Southwest, Carter-Riverside, Western Hills, Diamond Hill-Jarvis and Castleberry.
Stephenville, meanwhile, would land in District 5 of Region II along with Kennedale, Alvarado, Lake Worth, Decatur and Springtown, according to DCTF – a district, that if comes to pass, could also be a Region I candidate and flip flop with the Fort Worth district.
Again, districts and regions won’t be finalized until Feb. 1, but the speculation continues.
