Eight Of 10 Brownwood High Tennis Entries Still Alive In 6-4A Tournament

GLEN ROSE – Eight of the Brownwood High tennis team’s 10 entries into the District 6-4A tennis tournament are still alive after Wednesday’s first day of action, which was delayed until a 4 p.m. start due to rain.

In boys singles, River Prado collected two victories Wednesday to advance to Friday’s championship match as he knocked off Jose Saavedra of Glen Rose (6-0, 6-0) and Scott Grimes of Graham (6-1, 6-0).

Eric Smith defeated Jace Young of Glen Rose (6-4, 6-0) in his first match, but lost to Hayden Burrows of Graham (6-2, 6-3). Smith is set to face Grimes in the third-place match Friday.

In boys doubles action, Tyler Mitchell and Wesley Goodrich defeated Staples and Staples of Glen Rose (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) in their lone match Wednesday, while Blake Hutchins and Caleb Dietlin knocked off Donham and Sims of Stephenville (7-5, 6-2).

Both girls doubles teams are also still in the mix as Ashlyn Bundick and Claire Meinecke topped Brock and Wright of Graham (6-0, 6-1) and Emma Delgado and Raylei Hickey downed Pena and Roberts of Glen Rose (6-0, 6-0) Wednesday.

In girls singles play, Anna Daniel defeated Jewell Morris of Glen Rose (6-1, 6-2) while Amy Deechaulene lost her match to Rose Cordes of Stephenville (6-0, 6-3).

And in mixed doubles competition, Trine Baugh and Ihana Figueroa upended Thrasher and Wright of Glen Rose (6-3, 6-7 [3], 6-2), while Avery Mair and Aiden Opltonik lost to Quails and Birdwell of Graham (6-0, 6-0).
