AUSTIN – Brown County added two more medals to its haul as the UIL Track and Field State Championships concluded Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin.

After bringing home a silver medal last year, Zephyr’s Ronni McClain took the next step and captured the Class A girls pole vault state championship. McClain’s best effort cleared 10-6, as she was the only competitor to advance past the 10-foot mark. Natalie Immel of Robert Lee (9-6) and Ava Grooms Rocksprings (9-6) were co-silver medalists.

McClain entered the contest at the 9 foot mark and missed her first attempt but cleared the second. She then cleared 9-6 on her first attempt, but needed all three attempts to get over 10 foot, which clinched the gold medal. McClain then cleared 10-6 on her first attempt before her historic day ended attempting to clear 11 foot.

Also Saturday, for the third time in her career, May Lady Tiger Amanda Harrell collected a state medal as she earned the bronze in the Class A girls discus. Harrell finished with a best effort of 126-2, which trailed only gold medalist Xiomara Rodriguez of Lasara (145-8) and silver medalist Milly Hughes of Strawn (135-2).
