Goldthwaite’s Hermesmeyer Earns Bronze Medal, Blanket’s Kinkade Places Fourth At State Golf Tourneys

AUSTIN – Goldthwaite Lady Eagle Hope Hermesmeyer secured a medal at the Class 2A Girls Golf State Tournament at Lions Municipal Golf Course Tuesday, bringing home the bronze after finishing regulation with the second-best score.

Hermesmeyer owned a two-stroke advantage after a first-round 73 and followed with a 78 Tuesday for a 151 composite score, leaving her tied with Avery Burns of Mason. Burns won a one-hole playoff to snatch the silver medal, leaving Hermesmeyer with the bronze. Mason’s Ainsley Burns (78-71=149) captured the individual state championship.

Meanwhile, San Saba’s Cinzlea Stanton placed 13th as she posted an 86 Tuesday to go with an 84 Monday for a 170 tournament total.

In the team standings, Goldthwaite was seventh overall with a 781 composite score, following an opening 393 Monday with a 388 Tuesday.

Abigail Patrick added a 194 to the Lady Eagles’ tally with rounds of 103 Monday and 91 Tuesday, Lanna Gore posted a 198 with an opening 100 and closing 98, Rani House chipped in a 238 as she started with a 117 and finished with a 121, and Addison Lee contributed a 247 with rounds of 126 to open and 121 to close.

LEANDER – Blanket Lady Tiger junior Karli Kinkade placed fourth at the Class A Girls Golf State Tournament Tuesday, finishing the 36-hole, two-day event at Crystal Falls Golf Course with a 171 composite score.

The Region III-A champion, Kinkade began the tournament with a round of 86 on Monday and followed with an 85 on Tuesday, as she was seeking the third state medal of her high school career after collecting two bronze as a freshman and sophomore.

Rylee Wood of Garden City (84-81=165) won the individual state championship in a scorecard playoff over silver medalist Audrey Marler (85-80=165) of Lenorah Grady, while Utopia’s Kinsley Cox (85-83=168) was the bronze medalist.

In the team standings, Garden City came in a first with a 757 composite score followed by runner-up Utopia with an 830 and third-place Crowell with an 831.
