Alvin Lewis Bolton, age 85, of Rochelle, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at his residence in Rochelle. Alvin, or “Bull Frog” as he was known to many, was born on November 17, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, to Anna Lee Bolton. He grew up in Rochelle and graduated from Rochelle High School in 1959. Alvin was never one to sit still. He joined the Texas National Guard in June of 1956 at the age of seventeen and served 8 years. He attended Durham Business College in Austin. He worked at Loadcraft from 1961 to 1965 and attended Angelo State University from 1961 to 1965. He attended Southwest Texas College and graduated in 1970 and then attended Sul Ross, where he received his master’s degree in 1974. He taught at Big Springs High School, Snyder, and various schools, including Brownwood from 1978 to 1981 before returning to Rochelle in 1980. He finished his teaching career with the Texas Youth Commission, retiring with 28 years of service. He served on the Rochelle I.S.D. School Board for 25 years. He founded the Rochelle Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the board of the McCulloch County Senior Citizens Sunset Center. In 2005, the McCulloch County Commissioners Court appointed him to oversee the preservation of local history. He did that with commitment and due diligence. If someone wanted to know where anyone was buried or who they were, or who they were related to… “ask Alvin.” He oversaw all McCulloch County Cemeteries and served as President of most of them. He made maps and plotted all of them. The city of Brady would even call on Alvin to verify where someone was to be buried. He married Phyllis Solsbery Lankford on April 20, 2003, in Rochelle. He was a member of the Rochelle Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of the area.
