Defective tail light leads to drug arrest

Deputy Hammonds with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the area of Main Blvd. and Hickory St. January 17 when he observed a red vehicle with a defective tail light. Hammonds initiated a traffic stop on China St. and Main Blvd. The driver, identified as Tamara Dawn Hopkins, was arrested for driving with an invalid license and later charged with possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 3, less than 28 grams.

In other incidents involving the sheriff’s office:
• Deputy Scotty Burke responded to an address on Hwy 279 regarding a large pile of Styrofoam located on the property. Burke met with the business owner to discuss the violations.
• While attempting to serve an arrest warrant, Angelia Ruth Schum interfered with the arrest by grabbing hold of the officer while he was attempting the arrest with the combative, resisting subject.
• Deputy Langley arrived at the Hideout Golf Course regarding an assault. A female claimed a male had offensively touched her without consent.
• Deputy Hammonds and Sgt. Gover conducted a probation search on Cleburne St. During the search, two rifles were seized.
