Johnleen Rainey Hudson was born on October 25, 1938, and passed from this life on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026, at the age of 87. Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Staley Cemetery under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home, with Bill Slaymaker officiating.

Johnleen was born to John and Kathleen Rainey and was the first daughter after two brothers. Throughout the years, she was the family’s voice of reason and confidant until those roles were eventually reversed following her diagnosis of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Johnleen was a wonderful cook who took great pride in keeping her home and yard in pristine condition. She warmly welcomed family and her children’s friends into her home, and many of those now-grown children still lovingly called her “Mom.” She was a devoted sister to Marilyn, and being thirteen years older, she became like a second mother, mentor, and role model to her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Johnleen graduated from Brownwood High School in 1957. She married Jerry Hudson on September 28, 1957, and they remained devoted to one another until his passing on July 22, 2008.

She worked for Beall’s and Motts before retiring from Davis Floral. Johnleen was incredibly gifted and artistic, with a special talent for envisioning and creating beautiful bridal bouquets and floral arrangements. After retirement, she loved going anywhere with Jerry, especially Winstar. Jerry often joked that she would sit at the same slot machine all day until she finally won.

Johnleen was the best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother her family could ever have wished for. There was nothing she would not do for those she loved. Even while battling this devastating disease, she was still teaching Ivory how to dance.

Though she leaves behind many broken hearts, her family finds comfort and joy in their faith, knowing they will see her again.

Johnleen is survived by her grandson, Joshua Maldonado, and his children, Kingston and Ivory; her sister, Marilyn Rainey Cullins, and husband Stephen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cherished loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lee Hudson; her children, Brooke Lee Hudson and Lisa Leigh Hudson; her parents; Jerry’s parents, Arthur and Tylene Hudson; her siblings, Jack Rainey, Jim Rainey, Pat McClanahan, and Frances Deen; and her nephew, Sheldon Schell.

Arrangements are entrusted to Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
