Judge says fireworks, despite burn ban, are ‘ok’ to purchase and set off

During this morning’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioner’s, the court took no action regarding a burn ban. However, County Judge Ray West pointed out that fireworks can still be purchased and used, provided local laws are still being followed.

Recently, the metal detector in the south entrance at the courthouse quit working, which has forced deputies to check visitors by hand. West tasked Deputy Dennis Watson to research a possible replacement. The court agreed on one of Watson’s suggestions and agreed to purchase one of the units, but to keep the total cost at no more than $2,500. In other business, the court approved employee changes in the sheriff’s department as well in Precinct 4.

The court also approved the allowance of Precinct 3 Commissioner Wayne Shaw to purchase a new truck at a total of roughly $25,000, with a majority of the cost to be financed.
